LOW COST SEMI-AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOT FOR AGRICULTURAL APPLICATIONS SEEDBOT #SciChallenge2017

Medienformat: Poster
Agricultural and farming applications are one of the oldest field in world that begins with age of humankind to meet one of the most fundamental need of human: feeding.
Agricultural activities were started with the use of hand tools, digging, shovels, etc. in nowadays as a result of technological developments and new methods autonomous and robotic systems, are now being used in home gardening[1], industrial agriculture[2] fields in order to increase time, labor and cost costs and to increase the yield. Apart from R&D and state institutions, many robotic farming companies[3] [4] [5] operate in current market and market conditions.
The ultimate goal of the use of such systems is; Is to realize the product and agricultural activities with high efficiency by decreasing the most important role of human power in agricultural practices.
As is known, agricultural activities consist of many steps such as soil ventilation, seeding, planting and so on, and the step-by-step application of these steps without mistakes may cause a high cost of labor, cost and time wasted.Unfortunately, this situation causes big problems for singles and elderly people, especially those who have small and medium-sized gardens.
This study is separated from other studies such as design, mobility and cost perspective. At the moment, the systems in this area are very complex, both in terms of design and hardware. This situation helps to increase the efficiency which also increases the actual cost and maintenance costs, and these types of high-tech products are unfortunately fabricated by only at the level of high-budget companies and they can’t be afforded by end-user customers.
Current systems existing in the market generally consist of regular flat wheels. Using a flat wheel is generally an average solution and the robot is being constrained by limited maneuverability. To overcome this issue, mecanum wheels used in robot design, With this improvement, SeedBot was not constrained under movement along x and y axis, so it can operate in multiple directions (omnidirectional).
In this study, SeedBot was designed with as much care as possible to ensure that the selected materials have a high price / performance range as a basic criterion.
The goal of this study is to ensure that agricultural activities in small and medium-sized (one to two acres) farmland are carried out by using a semi-autonomous low-cost mobile robot, in a shorter time, with less cost.
