The SciChallenge Award Event took place on July 21, 2017, in Vienna and included a 2-day visitors program as well as the actual ceremony. All 20 Award Winners from the 12 winning projects (including individual and groups submissions) were able to participate in the event.

In order to create awareness for the event and especially for the presentation of the Award Winners’ submissions, the SciChallenge Award Event was linked to a public lecture, which took place as the closing family lecture of the 2017 Vienna Children’s University. A total of 561 people attended the SciChallenge Award Event and added up with the number of participants representing award winners, accompanying persons, consortium members and representatives of the jury, a total of 625 attendees were present in the Auditorium Maximum of the University of Vienna, where the SciChallenge winners were awarded.

The SciChallenge certificates and trophies were handed over to all awardees by Christa Schnabl – Vice-Rector of the University of Vienna – and David G. Pina – Research Programme Officer at the European Commission. Additionally, a science fair-like exhibition area was set up and after the official part of the award ceremony, the audience had the opportunity to get directly in contact with the winning teams. Furthermore, all participants at the SciChallenge Award Event were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite projects and based on the number of votes, three projects were awarded with the SciChallenge Audience Award.
