With our researches we tried to optimize the “ReviTec-method” with the help of “Texas BioGold”. Texas BioGold is a German soil produced from the by-products of an agricultural biogas plant. The ReviTec-method was developed by scientists of the University of Bremen for the fight against desertification. In a simple procedure, bags of biodegradable fibres are filled with compost, infertile soil, water absorbers and seeds of regional plants. These bags are arranged in different forms on the ground. In our experiments we produced two islands of four bags each. The bags of the first island were filled with the original soil mix of the ReviTec-method. The others were filled with our soil mix which contained Texas BioGold. In our experiments we added the seeds of two different kinds of grasses and one herb to the mixture. We took photos and measured the proportion of the green parts of one bag and the number of seedlings per bag. At the end of our first experiment we carried out a chemical analysis of our soils with regard to the content of nitrate and phosphorus inside our soil mixes.
