Robotics is a branch of mechanical and electrical engineering and computer science. It relates to the design, construction, operation and application of robots as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback and information processing. These technologies have developed automated machines that can substitute humans in dangerous environments or in manufacturing processes. They can resemble humans in appearance, behaviour or cognition.
Throughout history, it has been frequently assumed that one day robots will be able to mimic human behaviour and manage tasks in a human-like fashion. Indeed their design has often tried to take on human form. Today, robotics is a rapidly growing field as technological advances continue. Researching, designing and building new robots serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially or militarily. Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics. Other robots are built to do jobs that are hazardous to people such as defusing bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins and exploring mines and shipwrecks.
Social Life: Robots are becoming more and more similar to humans. This will have a major impact on our everyday interactions and our social life.
Labor Market: On the one hand, robots take over more and more tasks especially in the field of production, which were done by humans before. On the other hand, youth unemployment rates are increasing significantly in most European countries due to the automatization of production.
Ageing Population: Especially Western European societies are aging societies. This causes problems such as an increasing demand for care, which might be solved by using robots.
