Food Chemistry
Chemistry is all around us. We breathe it, drink it, eat it, wear it, we can write with it and we can do many other things through it. Our food is full of chemistry as well. It consists of many different chemical compounds. Most of them are essential for our body. It is fuel for our cells, muscles and brain. It helps us to keep healthy and to prevent diseases. However, some food might also have a negative effect on us - such as old, burnt or fried food that is full of unfavorable substances.
Processing of food implies various chemical reactions as there are many processes and chemical transformations involved (cooking, frying, freezing, maceration, diffusion, filtration etc.). Some food can be eaten without processing, but a lot of our food actually has to be processed in one or the other way. All these food chemicals also react with external factors.
Processing the food is used to change the chemical elements and combinations into a desired smell, taste, color, digestibility or nutritional composition. The chemical reactions continue after the processing of the food. Investigate the wonderful world on your plate, which is full of chemicals and their chemical reactions.
Wonderful World Of Chemistry: A world without chemistry seems to be impossible. However, there are fields, where we should worry - such as dangerous chemicals in our clothes, food or other products.
Food Processing: Food is a mixture of chemicals and one can observe colorful chemicals or nutritionally beneficial compounds. Cooking brings about chemical changes in food. On the one hand, this is important. On the other hand, it could also destroy certain elements.
Never-ending Chemical Reactions: Some food remains fresh for month(s), while other products can't be eaten after a couple of days. Furthermore, the termination date is often criticized.
